IWSS is a community based organisation which works with women and children of non-English speaking background who are or have been in violent domestic situations and/or have experienced rape and/or sexual assault. It is a crisis and support service which provides culturally appropriate support, information, short-term counselling and referral.

Refuges

Women's refuges are a safe place for women and children escaping domestic and family violence. The Supported Accommodation Assistance Program (SAAP) provides funding for 52 services, mostly refuges, for women and children escaping domestic violence across Queensland. The refuges are run by a variety of organisations including churches and community based organisations, which are jointly funded by the Queensland and Commonwealth Governments. Women seeking refuge should contact dvline or their local regional domestic violence service.

Counselling

Counselling is offered for women, children and men by other community agencies throughout Queensland in addition to those services offered by specific domestic violence services. All of these services have branches in most major centres and offer specialist domestic and family violence counselling. These services include:
